2 Arrested in Connection with Gang Rape in Reading

Two teenagers have been arrested in connection with the gang rape of a woman in Reading town centre.

A 19-year-old from Tilehurst and another 19-year-old from Katesgrove were arrested on Friday, July 24, on suspicion of rape.

The men have been bailed to return to Loddon Valley police station on Thursday, August 20.

The 20-year-old woman was attacked by up to four men in an alleyway near Merchants Place in Reading town centre on Sunday, July 19, after meeting a man outside Xen Bar in Friar Street.

Police believe the woman was raped by the man before three of his friends arrived and joined in.

Officers are still searching for two other men and appealing for witnesses to the assault which happened between 1.30am and 2.30am.

Detective Inspector Nick Watts, from Reading CID, said: “I’m keen to trace four black men, all between 5ft 4in and 6ft who were all dressed in casual clothing.”
