A woman returning from a night out was subjected to a horrific sexual assault in Bournemouth:

A WOMAN was subjected to a horrifying sexual assault just yards from a busy road in central Bournemouth.

The woman, in her 20s, was punched in the face and head by her attacker just off Westover Road in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The victim, who was wearing a blue and white fancy dress nurse’s outfit at the time of the assault, was attacked at 2am in an area of Bournemouth’s Lower Gardens just off the road.

She suffered a bruised and swollen face and was taken by ambulance to Poole Hospital, where she was treated before being released later in the day.

Detective Inspector Craig Travers, of Bournemouth CID, said: “The victim left a nightclub in Exeter Road alone at approximately 1.40am and made her way through Bournemouth Square and up Westover Road to get a taxi home.

“She was wearing quite distinctive clothing and if anyone saw her walking through Bournemouth Square and along Westover Road I need them to get in touch.

“We are keen to trace a man who is described as being of Asian appearance, aged between 30 and 35 years old, of medium build with short dark hair. He was wearing blue jeans, a dark coloured tracksuit top, and white trainers.”

He said the man had approached the woman on Westover Road, outside the Brasshouse nightclub, and was seen crossing over the road with the woman towards Bournemouth Gardens.

“If anyone saw the man in this area or saw him with a woman I need to speak with them urgently,” he said.

“This was a nasty and unprovoked attack which has left the victim injured and shocked and I’d urge anyone else who has any other information about this incident, or about the man responsible, to call the police immediately.”

Parts of Bournemouth Gardens have been cordoned off while forensic officers carry out an examination.

A group of Muslim men are on trial for grooming and abusing a young teenager in Keighley:

A 32-year-old man told a jury a teenager he had sex with looked like a grown woman.

Raj Mohammed Shabir, of Neville Street, Keighley, denies two offences of sexual activity with a child. He admitted at Bradford Crown Court today that he had sex with the girl once.

Shabir said she dressed like an adult and was drinking and smoking. He thought she was at least 17.

He told the jury he lied to police about knowing the girl because he was married with a child and did not want to lose the respect of his community.

Shabir is on trial with four other men accused of sexual offences against the girl when she was 14 and 15.

They are Mohammed Shabir (senior) 36, of Hawk Street, Keighley; Mohammed Zackriya, 21, of Springfield Road, Keighley; Abid Ali, 27, of Cark Road, Keighley, and Mohammed Taj, 37, of Aireview Terrace, Skipton.

Five men on trial accused of grooming and sexually abusing a vulnerable young teenager heard her branded a liar and attention seeker by defence barristers.

Michelle Colborne, representing father-of-five Mohammed Shabir, 36, of Hawk Street, Keighley, told the jury at Bradford Crown Court yesterday he had never been in trouble in his life.

The alleged victim, now 18, climbed out of her bedroom window late at night to meet men and later claimed they abused her.

Miss Colborne said it would be “misleading and dangerous” for the jury to convict on her evidence.

She had been a child “on the cusp of adulthood” with a liberal mother.

Nikki Peers, barrister for Mohammed Zackriya, 21, of Springfield Road, Keighley, said the girl told police she had been raped by 20 to 30 Asian males over two years.

She willingly gave out her mobile phone number to men, making a lifestyle choice.

She enjoyed the attention of older men who said she was pretty, told her they loved her and gave her money and cigarettes, perhaps giving her the attention she was not getting at home.

After she sobered up, she told her friend she regretted the things she had got up to.

Miss Peers urged the jury to clear Zackriya of all 12 charges against him.

'A lifestyle choice'; I thought getting a 14 year old to engage in sexual activity in return for cigarettes was grooming, a criminal offence. But apparently she gave out her phone number, so raping her is OK. How do these barristers sleep at night?


A young man has been sent to a psychiatric unit after spying on a naked teenage girl at a leisure centre:

A PEEPING Tom who spied on a naked teenage girl in a Burnley leisure centre changing room is set to receive mental health treatment.

Mohammed Gulfraz Razaq (22) who has previous convictions for indecency, had earlier had his sentencing adjourned while he was made the subject of a three-month interim hospital order at Calderstones Hospital, Whalley.

Magistrates had ruled out jail. Medics at the hospital thought a full order was not necessary, but he should receive treatment within the community, Burnley magistrates heard.

The defendant, of Colne Road, Burnley, had earlier admitted voyeurism on January 14th, 2008. He was given an 18-month community order with 12 months' mental health treatment. He must also pay £200 compensation and was put on the Sex Offenders' Register for five years.

District Judge Peter Ward, who had read reports from a consultant psychiatrist and a clinical psychologist, told him: "It seems to me you need help, which hopefully will stop this sort of thing happening and lead to a better life."

The judge added the aim was for Razaq to function as normally as possible.

Mr Andrew Robinson (prosecuting) said Razaq was at St Peter's Health and Leisure Centre when the offence took place.

The victim, who was 17, was there with her partner. The defendant had said hello to them, although they did not know him, and the victim thought he was staring at them.

Mr Robinson said the girl was in a changing cubicle in the mixed sex changing room and Razaq looked over the top of the cubicle. The girl was fully naked at the time. The defendant said he was sorry.

The teenager was left scared, upset and shocked.

For the defendant, Mr Trevor Grice said he had co-operated with everything that had been asked of him. He had not committed any further offences.

A man has been jailed for a brutal rape in Hull:

A "BEAST" who repeatedly raped a woman is starting a six-and-a-half year prison sentence.

Ibrahim Mutlu, 43, of Pocklington, raped the 49-year-old woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, on December 11 last year.

He grabbed her, bit her and placed his hand over her mouth to stop her screaming, before raping her.

Mutlu was due to go on trial at Hull Crown Court, but pleaded guilty to rape five days before the case was due to start.

Judge Roger Thorn QC, sentencing, said: "There must be a substantial prison sentence.

"This rape involved a prolonged and persistent violent struggle.

"You bit her on various parts of her body. All the while she was shouting for you to stop and you blindly ignored her. In essence you behaved like a beast and you raped her.

"You know from her victim personal statement how badly shocked and disturbed she was. She says it was the most horrific event of her life. You are responsible for that."

Prosecutor Helen Hendry said Mutlu behaved like an "animal".

She said: "She tried to push him off and told him she didn't want sex. She dug her nails into him, he bit her, there was a violent struggle between them.

"He bit her arm and breast, she said he was like an animal. She was screaming and screaming and was very frightened.

"In the opinion of the doctor there had been a violent struggle in her attempt to avoid been raped."

The court heard Mutlu had covered her mouth with his hand to stop her screaming.

She managed to escape wearing just a cardigan and went to a phone box to call the police.

She was covered in bruises and bite marks.

Mutlu was arrested the next day and denied raping her.

In a statement read to the court the victim said: "I feel my life has been taken over by this event. I feel I have had a tortured existence and even though I knew he was in prison I still feel anxious and frightened.

"I would describe it as an unspeakable event, which has changed my life in so many ways. It has been the most horrific time of my life."

Mutlu had previously grabbed her neck and squeezed her face and threatened her with a knife.

His barrister Patrick Palmer said: "He is utterly remorseful for what took place that night."

Mutlu was jailed for six-and-a-half years and must sign the Sex Offenders' Register for life.

He had no previous convictions.
