Send a Letter in Support of Geert Wilders
Yesterday I published the addresses of various government ministers and agencies here in the UK so that those concerned about Mr Wilders being banned from the country knew who to protest to.
I received this comment from an anonymous contributor:
"Ok, i COULD write. But write what to say what ?Most of the people reading "you can write" will NOT write, because they do not know WHAT to write. If they had YOUR ability to write, and time, they would have their own blog and an article to support wilders.Fact is that MOST of your readers DO NOT have any blog, meaning that they DO NOT have either the ability to write nore the time to write, or both...."
He/she actually makes an excellent point. Those who feel able to find the words will write anyway. For anyone who wishes to support Mr Wilders but cannot find the right words, or doesn't have the time, I have drafted the following letter, to be sent to the Foreign Secretary David Miliband or the Home Secretary Jacqui Smith.
Simply copy, paste and print it, pop it in an envelope, and for the price of a stamp your voice will be heard too.
Dear Mr Miliband/Ms. Smith
I am writing to you regarding the decision to prevent the Dutch parliamentarian Geert Wilders from entering the United Kingdom.
You claim that he is a threat to 'internal security', however your government has been directly responsible for several controversial Imams who preach hate on a daily basis being allowed to remain in the UK.
Your government has admitted that it has no idea of the real number of illegal immigrants in the country, yet when it comes to a democratically elected MP from an EU nation, you feel qualified to exercise border control.
Your government recently hosted the Premier of China, a country with an appalling human rights record, without complaint. His visit caused some severe disturbances in London and elsewhere, yet you did not dare to bar him and you would certainly not have had him arrested upon entry. Why is that?
Mr Miliband, to me Britain has always stood for freedom; however your treatment of Mr Wilders is nothing short of bullying. The Netherlands is a small country and a European partner. You hope they would not dare make too much of a fuss about this because you perceive Mr Wilders' views as wrong and unpopular; however I can assure you they are neither.
If the British government upholds this ban, I will boycott British goods and/or refrain from travelling to Britain until such a time as the ban is lifted. Britain owes it to the world as a democratic power to uphold the values of free speech it has always held so dear; your government's hypocrisy is making that impossible. You would not dare to treat an MP from a larger nation this way, and you are bringing shame on Britain throughout the world.
I urge you to reconsider.
Yours sincerely,
Print it out and send it to:

I am sickened by this.
I have hated this Government since that smarmy little git was elected in 1997.
I am so angry! They let all manner of islamic rubbish into this country and then ban this guy.
We are in a period of appeasement.
J:
Yes, I hear you. What was especially troubling for me is the way the government just makes up the rules as it goes along, and expects no meaningful protest or fall out.
One minute, we have an open border with the EU, and millions can come, wanted or not. Then a man of Geert's calibre finds some beefy Customs men blocking his path, in what is clearly a purely political decision and an attempt to stop some of our major cities burning.
I hope they can sleep well tonight, because this act is probably the lowest a British government has sunk in centuries, if ever.
I'm still astounded and angry, but I'll write a more detailed post about it tomorrow.
I've been ranting all night.
I'll probably regret it tomorrow. So angry.
"Yes, I hear you. What was especially troubling for me is the way the government just makes up the rules as it goes along, and expects no meaningful protest or fall out."
Why would they? A cowed and apathetic population has allowed them to get away with dismantling Brtiain and her traditions, so one deported Dutch politician will barely register on the public's radar.
After all, what the celebrity of the day is wearing is far more important...
KG:
I wish you weren't right, but you are. What the X-factor winner is up to or who got through Dancing on Ice seem far more important to some than our hard won freedoms.
I suppose to be fair, the government has spent 40 years trying to dimantle the British identity and culture in the schools.
I read a letter in 'The London Paper' this week from an Aussie in London who was moved to tears after a lady on the train took a curosry glance at an article about how his hometown in Victoria had been obliterated, then immediately flicked to the section on BAFTA nominees' dresses.
But then, most UK newspapers are glorified comics these days.
Don't forgeert Wilders!
Stop talking, start acting.
Isn't Geert's freedom worth a stamp?
If Geert Wilders falls, then Freedom of speech is dead in Europe. We are launching an extensive International Action SITA including two possible texts ; one comparing Wilders and Winston Churchill and another Wilders and Charlie Chaplin:

To support Geert Wilders and our dearly acquired freedoms please participate to the 2 suggested actions and transmit this message to your friends owners of a website in order they publish it.
An other way to support Geert Wilders is to give some money. To donate: www.geertwilders.nl
