A FORMER nurse has admitted stealing £72,000 from an Alzheimer’s sufferer who was under his care.
Abdool Hamuth, aged 65, pleaded guilty yesterday (August 24) at Southwark Crown Court to obtaining money transfer by deception between June 10 and August 2, 2004.
He also pleaded guilty to attempting to obtain money by deception after trying twice to steal £128,000 from the man, also in 2004.
Hamuth, who worked at Castlebar Nursing Home in Sydenham Hill at the time, was recently extradited from Mauritius following an investigation by Lewisham police.
The court heard that the victim, who was 78 years old at the time of the offences, has since died.
